• The Motion Church Story

When Chris Reid was a teenager, he had a vision of what he wanted his life to be. The picture had the path of someone who would pursue law school, become a lawyer, then a judge, maybe even a politician, and some time later in life be the pastor of a church. Although all of it didn't come to pass, the most rewarding one eventually happened.

In 2008 while at the Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Chris heard Steven Furtick tell his story. He was a passionate, young pastor that started a church in Charlotte, North Carolina with a group of his closest friends. He was 25 when he started the church, and in 3 years, it grew to over 3,000 people. When he was finished, "God of This City" by Chris Tomlin played and the thought of planting a church in Longview was birthed in his heart.

  • Having been in youth ministry for 8 years, Chris and Shelley weren't quite ready to give it up yet, but it was a constant reminder of the dream God placed on Chris's heart. As more students graduated and disconnected from the church, it broke their hearts more and more. Something had to be done to break this cycle, thus Motion Church was born.

In February of 2011, Chris and Shelley resigned as youth pastors and started the journey of creating a church devoted to reaching young, unchurched people. While looking around for a possible location to start the church, they pulled into the parking lot of the Triple Creek Plaza and the song "God of This City" happened to come on. Needless to say, the church launched on June 26th, 2011 at our current location in the Triple Creek Plaza in Longview.

  • God's faithfulness has been exemplified in so many ways from the time the church started until now. God literally set Motion Church into motion and has been faithful in equipping Pastors Chris and Shelley in leading people to live, and move, and have their being in Jesus Christ. Come join the story of Motion church that continues to be written!
